Basic operation

Connects to the Sga-SS7 server to give a username and a password and a reason for authentication (IP address of the server can be adjustable in the configuration (Sga-7N-5.ini) file)
Gets signaling link information from the server after a successful authentication
Uses signaling link information file to determine which link belongs to which monitor
Sends call trace requests to the Sga-7N Monitor Poller module which handles these requests and collects the corresponding MSUs from the monitor units
Writes received MSUs into a SGA file
Optionally can omit sub-M3UA and sub-IUA layers

User interface

The Call Trace module can be started by double clicking on its icon (as usual in Windows environment).
First the User Authentication window appears where it is needed to type a username and the password for this username. In addition it must also give a reason why the user wants to use this module. After a successful authentication in user must choose his/her role to decide which privilege he/she wants to use. If Apply default role is checked user automatically use his/her default role (defined on the server in the authentication server module). A 'super user' automatically logs in as a normal user when "Apply default role" option is checked.
Warning: In case of any problem during connection, please also consider local firewall problems and check the proper server IP address setting!

Trace…
- !: This button fills the fields with the actual date and time
- It can be defined a time interval when the call trace is done. The time interval is between …from and …to value
- End time of record interval must be beyond the start time
Primary searching options
- map: MAP messages will be looked for with a given:
  - MSISDN (exact or range) OR
  - IMSI (exact or range) OR
  - LMSI (exact hexadecimal)
    AND (optionally)
  - SCCP GT (exact or range, it is recommended to complete the exact value with an asterisk (*) to ensure that numbers with filler character on their end also will be found.
  - Search in UpdLoc MSU's only: Filtering for MAP/UpdateLocation messages
  - Do re-request transaction time-out X [sec]: With this option the related MAP messages will be searched (based on the TID, secondary search) considering the time-out parameter. (Re-request/TransactionTimeOut is incremented by Sga-7N-5.ini/[Advanced]/dwRerequestPrereadMSec)
- isup,dss1: ISUP/IAM(s) and DSS1/Setup(s) with the given MSISDN (an exact or a range) will be looked for.
  The MSISDN will be searched in CallingPartyNumber and CalledPartyNumber and OriginalCalledNumber and RedirectingNumber, as well.
  When Do re-request is set the subsequent messages for the current call will be searched based on DPC and OPC and CIC. (Re-request/TransactionTimeOut is incremented by Sga-7N-5.ini/[Advanced]/dwRerequestPrereadMSec)
- ranap,bssap: The searching is based on the subscriber's data.
  - MSISDN (exact or range) OR
  - IMSI (exact or range) OR
  - TMSI (hex) (exact hexadecimal TMSI value or a wildcard (*) for any TMSI) OR
  - IMEI (exact or range)
  - Give only MSU's that carry TMSI: filtering for messages containing TMSI
  - Do re-request transaction time-out X [sec]: With this option the related BSSAP messages will be searched (based on the SLR/DLR and DPC/OPC) considering the time-out parameter. (Re-request/TransactionTimeOut is incremented by Sga-7N-5.ini/[Advanced]/dwRerequestPrereadMSec)
- /cell: Looking for messages based on cell information. Exact values must be given. Only given data will be considered.
  - MCC (Mobile Country Code) AND
  - MNC (Mobile Network Code) AND
  - LAC (hex) (Local Area Code) AND
  - CI (hex) (Cell Identifier)
  - look it up: Selecting a cell from the drop-down list MCC/MNC/LAC/CellID fills the proper fields. (Cell name list can be defined by Sga-7N-5.ini/[Advanced]/sCellNamesFile)
  - Do re-request transaction time-out X [sec]: With this option the related BSSAP messages will be searched (based on the SLR/DLR and DPC/OPC) considering the time-out parameter. (Re-request/TransactionTimeOut is incremented by Sga-7N-5.ini/[Advanced]/dwRerequestPrereadMSec)
- inap,cap: INAP and CAMEL messages can be searched using this tab:
  - MSISDN (exact or range) OR
  - IMSI (exact or range)
    AND (optionally)
  - Service key (dec) (exact)
    AND (optionally)
  - SCCP GT (exact or range, it is recommended to complete the exact value with an asterisk (*) to ensure that numbers with filler character on their end also will be found.
  - Do re-request transaction time-out X [sec]: With this option the related INAP/CAMEL messages will be searched (based on the TID, secondary search) considering the time-out parameter. (Re-request/TransactionTimeOut is incremented by Sga-7N-5.ini/[Advanced]/dwRerequestPrereadMSec)
- sccp: Messages based on exact DTID/OTID or SLR/DLR parameter can be searched.
  - OTID/DTID (hex) AND
  - DTID/OTID (hex)
    AND (optionally)
  - SCCP GT (exact or range)
  OR
  - SLR/DLR (hex) (exact) AND
  - DLR/SLR (hex) (exact)
- roam: MAP/ProvideRoamingNumber_Inv messages can be looked for based on IMSI. The given IMSI may be exact or a range.
  With the re-request option the related MAP/PRN_Res and ISUP/IAM and all corresponding ISUP messages will be searched considering the time-out parameters. (Rerequest/TransactionTimeOut is incremented by Sga-7N-5.ini/[Advanced]/dwRerequestPrereadMSec)
- ciphkey: All MSU's containing Encryption Information parameter with the given exact CipherKey value will be acquired from the monitor units
- simple: Arbitrary byte sequence can be searched which can occur anywhere in the MSU
  - Search string is looked for in MSU's
    - as Hex: String is searched as a hexadecimal number
    - as InvBCD: String is searched as an Inverse BCD number
    - as either Hex or InvBCD: String is searched both as a hexadecimal number and as an Inverse BCD number
    - as ASCII: String is searched based on their ASCII values
    - Notes:
      - The actually searched values are shown beside each option on typing
      - For strings conatining characters outside the range of {0..9} and {A..F} only ASCII search could give any result
      - Earlier strings can be chosen from the drop-down list
    and (optionally)
  - SCCP GT: Only MSU's with the given SCCP GT value (exact or range) will be displayed
  - Protocol: The protocol level may be chosen where the binary data will be looked for (based on Message Type of BSSAP or Operation type of MAP or ServiceKey of INAP)
- imsi-...: With this feature the user can search:
  - the current and previous IMEIs for a given IMSI
  - the current and previous IMSIs for a given IMEI
  - the current and previous MSISDNs for a given IMSI
  - the current and previous IMSIs for a given MSISDN
  from the IMSI-IMEI and IMSI-MSISDN databases. Query provides "First seen" time values, as well as the "Last seen" values.
  Exact values must be given in the input fields. Wildcard can not be applied. This function needs proper rights (Role 9)!
- gcp:
  - Binding Reference (hex): GCP messages will be displayed whose Binding reference is equal to the given value
  - Termination ID (hex): MSU's containing the given hexa value as Termination ID parameter.
  - Context ID (hex): MSU's containing the given hexa value as Context ID parameter.
  - Transaction ID (hex): Not yet available
  - Do re-request transaction time-out X [sec]: With this option the related GCP messages will be searched (based on the ContextID and TransactionID (secondary and tertiary search)) considering the time-out parameter. (Rerequest/TransactionTimeOut is incremented by Sga-7N-5.ini/[Advanced]/dwRerequestPrereadMSec)
- *joker*: Parameters are searched in any handled protocols. Criteria are in logical OR connection.
  - MSISDN (exact or range)
  - IMSI (exact or range)
  - TMSI (hex) (exact hexadecimal TMSI value)
  - IMEI (exact or range)
  - (misc.) Drop-down list
    - TEID (exact hexadecimal TEID value)
    - Diameter / SessionID (exact value)
    - S1AP / MME-UE-S1AP-ID (exact value)
    - S1AP / ENB-UE-S1AP-ID (exact value)
    - GTPv1-U / User IP address: (exact value)
- sip: Filters are in logical AND connection.
  - SIP/Method: Message searching based on the SIP/Method value (text)
  - SIP/Request-URI: Message searching based on the SIP/Request-URI value
  - SIP/Request-URI/host (domain name or IP address): Message searching based on the domain name or IP address part of the SIP/Request-URI value
  - SIP/Request-URI/user (user name or telephone number): Message searching based on the domain user part of the SIP/Request-URI value
  - SIP/Status-Code: Message searching based on the SIP/Status-code value
  - SIP/header 'From' URI: Message searching based on the SIP/'From' URI value
  - SIP/header 'To' URI: Message searching based on the SIP/'To' URI value
  - SIP/header 'Route' URI: Message searching based on the SIP/'Route' URI value
  - SIP/header 'Contact' URI: Message searching based on the SIP/'Contact' URI value
  - SIP/header 'Contact'/'sipappsessionid': Message searching based on the SIP application session ID value
  - SIP/header 'Call-ID': Message searching based on the SIP/'To' URI value
  - SIP/header 'CSeq'/number: Message searching based on the SIP/'To' URI value
  - SIP/header 'CSeq'/method: Message searching based on the SIP/'To' URI value
  - SIP/header field name: Message searching based on the header field name value
  - SIP/any header field value: Message searching based on any header field value
  - XML/<Cap4>/OriginalCalledPartyID: Message searching within the embedded XML part for the OriginalCalledPartyID value
  - XML/<Cap4>/CallingPartyNumber: Message searching within the embedded XML part for the CallingPartyNumber value
  - XML/<Cap4>/CalledPartyNumber: Message searching within the embedded XML part for the CalledPartyNumber value
  - XML/<Cap4>/IMSI: Message searching within the embedded XML part for the IMSI value
  - XML/<Cap4>/ServiceKey: Message searching within the embedded XML part for the ServiceKey value
  - XML/any tag: Message searching within the embedded XML part for any tag value
  - XML/root tag : Message searching within the embedded XML part for the root tag value
  - Do re-request transaction time-out X [sec]: With this option all SIP messages of the call can be looked for (based on the Call-ID Considering the time-out parameter. (Rerequest/TransactionTimeOut is incremented by Sga-7N-5.ini/[Advanced]/dwRerequestPrereadMSec)
SigLink Filter: With this button the needed signaling links can be selected which will be call traced. In the appearing Signaling links window needed links can be chosen:
- In this window a group of signaling links can be selected by holding the Shift key and marking the first and last link with the mouse or they can be marked separately by holding the Ctrl key and clicking on the needed links by the mouse (as usual in Windows environment)
- Filter1a and Filter1b: Two logically AND'ed filters for signaling link names. At most 20 characters can be defined.
- Filter2a and Filter2b: Logical connection between these two filters and the previous ones is OR. At most 20 characters can be defined.
  - Search patterns can match anywhere within link names.
  - The usual wildcard characters can be used in the searching patterns. Search/filter expression wild chars with their respective meanings are the following:
    - '.' - matches zero or one character
    - '?' - matches one character
    - '*' - matches zero or more character
- Select All: All signaling links are selected from the list
- Clear All: All signaling links are deselected
- Save Profile#N: There is a possibility to save four different selections of the signaling links.
  Name can de defined for each profile. By clicking into the grey name field it becomes editable.
- Load Profile#N: Saved selections can be loaded with these buttons
Omit all sub-M3UA (or sub-IUA) layers from trace:
- Protocol layers below M3UA or IUA will not be considered, only M3UA or IUA messages will be captured

Current results

Add to collected result file Result of the current call trace will be added to the result file
Auto-add when stops MSU's found for the current call trace will automatically be added to the result file
Sort + dd: this button sorts results based on timestamps and drops duplicated entries. It drops subsequent duplicated signal units even if they were seen on different signaling links.
View: If there is a decoder assigned for SGA files this button opens the SGA file in the decoder

Collected results file

Local filename can be defined with its full path
Browse...: Target file can be selected by browsing the local file system. The selected file must be an existing SGA file
Delete Output file will be deleted
Sort + dd: This button sorts results based on timestamps and drops duplicated entries. It drops subsequent duplicated signal units even if they were seen on different signaling links.
View: If there is a decoder assigned for SGA files this button opens the SGA file in the decoder

Status

Indicates the status of the trace under the tracing process
- Fetching request: This message is appearing when a call trace is in progress
- Ready: This message shows that the call trace is stopped (after the Stop button is pressed)
Records: Shows the number of captured MSUs which is matching the conditions set above (and all MSU's returned from the monitor units)
Earliest seek time: With the Get button it can be known what the earliest message under examining is. If its value is the current time the process is on-line and observes the brand-new messages

Start

Starts the searching

Stop

Interrupts the call trace

Exit

Shuts down the main window and exits from the program

Restart

Stops and starts again the Call Trace module with four options
- Re-authenticate with the same user info: Restarts the module and logs in with the same username/password/reason values
- Reload signaling link data: Without restart it request again the SL.dat information (for example when information was changed at the server)
- Logon as a different user: Logs out and gives the authentication window again to log in with a new user
- Logon with a different reason: Gives the authentication window to type the new reason for logging on

Errors & warnings only

Only error and warning messages will be logged

Include seek-time info

The timestamp of the currently examined message on the given monitor will be logged

Auto-scroll to end of the list

When it is checked the log book scrolls to the end of the list

Keep tricky

Deletes those rows from the result list which do not contain tricky-copy information

Clear window

Deletes all rows from the result list

Auto hide feature

When the user is not active (no mouse movement and keyboard stroke) for a given amount of time (for example 10 minutes) then the module's result list box goes hidden and a user verification field appears. The user has to enter the password in order to be able to see result list box again.

Auto logout feature

When there is no active remote capture request in progress for a given amount of time (for example 60 minutes) then the module automatically logs the user out. In that case the following pop-up window appears.

Input list files

Cell Names List

The CellNames.csv file contains the cell names for the MCC/MNC/LAC/CI values. In the /Cell tab of the Call Trace module a cell to be searched for can easily be selected from a drop-down list where the elements are derived from this CellNames.csv. A missing value in the file item matches any value in the parameter, but not vice versa.
All numbers in the file are interpreted as hexadecimal numbers. Cell names can be up to 51 characters long.

An example: 216,30,5d,14a2,Cell 3 Meanings:

216: MCC (Mobile Country Code)
30: MNC (Mobile Network Code)
5D: LAC (Location Area Code)
14A2: CI (Cell Identifier)
Cell 3: Cell Name, can be up to 51 characters long

BSSMAP CIC to GCP Termination ID file

The CIC2TermID.lst file contains the necessary information to calculate the GCP Termination ID related to the { OPC, DPC, BSSMAP CIC } value triplet. When a ranap,bssap search gives back a message containing BSSMAP/Circuit Identity Code parameter a related TerminationID value is displayed next to it which is looked up from the CIC2TermID.lst. The corresponding GCP messages can be searched by using this TerminationID.
All numbers in the file are interpreted as decimal numbers.

Configuration (`Sga-7N-5.ini`) file settings

This file has to be placed in the Windows or Winnt directory! Only keys are described here that can be changed by the user.
The other keys are updated from the main window when Exit button is pressed.
Before changing these keys below the Call Trace module has to be closed.
