The values are in different bases: they are in binary, decimal or hexadecimal form:
In quoted character strings (in USSD texts, for example) non-printable ASCII and Unicode characters are replaced by the following character(s): CR by "\r", LF by "\n", TAB by "\t", and the rest by a dot. The backslash character is replaced by "\\" (two backslashes).
Invalid GSM7 septet and UTF-8 octet sequences are marked by ''.
A new item can be added to the list box Display values by selecting an item in the list box Values
and pressing the push button Add.
To remove a column in the main window, select the corresponding item in the list box Display values and press Remove.
The position of a column can be changed by selecting the corresponding item in the list box Display values
and pressing Move Up or Move Down as many times as needed.
The Column type settings determine how the columns appear in the main window.
If an item in Display values has the column type Joined, List or Merged, then a new column is started in the main window.
If an item has the type Next, then the value will appear in the same column as the previous one.
The types Joined, List and Merged are three different display formats:
In each line a different criterium may be set for the value of a message parameter.
With the buttons Load Mn and Save Mn the current dialog settings can be loaded from and saved to the INI file.
The Customize current view dialog window
With this dialog window the columns in the main window can be chosen.
The items in the list box Display values represent the columns in the main window.
The missing values are substituted by a slash.
The missing values are not displayed.
The missing values are not displayed.
Special key input
The Compact columns dialog window
With this dialog window the maximum width of the columns in the main window can be specified in pixels.
Pressing "Ok" on the dialog box sets the new column width value, and saves it in the ini file.
Entering 0 value disables the compact view, alternatively the compact column view can be toggled on or off by pressing Alt+C.
The Find text dialog window
The find feature is for finding items by text.
The Find expression dialog window
The find expression feature is for finding messages by message parameter values.
A message will be found if it matches the logical expression set in this dialog.
Criteriums are as follows:
'==' : matches for equal values
'!=' : matches if values are not equal
'<','<=','>','>=' : matches for relational values
'is not present' : matches if field is not present
'is present' : matches if field is present
'contains' : matches if field contains string
'not contains' : matches if field does not contain string
The logical operators at the end of the lines tell how to combine the criteria.
The precedence of the operators are their order:
( ... ((Criterium1 operator1 Criterium2) operator2 Criterium3) ... operatorN-1 CriteriumN)

The messages that belong to the resulting set will be selected while the rest of the messages will be deselected after the trace.
When the user is not active for 10 minutes then the program's main window goes blank and the open dialogs will be hidden.
In case of user activity (mouse movement or keyboard stroke) the program goes back to its previous state.
NOTE: The applicable trace types are also displayed in a context sensitive menu when right clicking on a given message.
Security feature
Color by column
This function is used to distinguish packets by the selected columns value.
Colors are assigned downwards from the currently highlighted packet, then the packets before that are colored, but no new colors are assigned.
The first 8 colors are specified as: red, green, blue, yellow, purple, azure, orange, brown.
After that a total of 255-8 colors are assigned by a fixed gradient.
If a message does not contain the selected columns value, then no color (white) is assigned to it.
Coloring can be executed by right clicking on the highligted message, and selecting a column from the "Color by column" submenu.
By pressing "CTRL+Numpad*" the packets with the same color as the highlighted packet are added to the selection.
By pressing "CTRL+Numpad/" the packets with the same color as the highlighted packet are excluded from the selection.
Decode (All) as ...
If an unidentified TCP or UDP packet is highlighted, then we can force its decoding by right clicking, and selecting the appropriate "Decode as:..." sub-menu element.
Selecting a "Decode All as ..." sub-menu element forces decoding of all undecoded TCP or UDP data to the choice selected.
The source port of the currently highlighted packet is used for the "Decode as..." quick menu function, but both the source and destination ports are considered for other packets.

Cell names file
The CellNames.csv file contains the cell names for the MCC/MNC/LAC/CI values.
There are 4 different data line types:
Service area names file
The SANames.csv file contains the service area names for the MCC/MNC/LAC/SAC values.
Each data line must containt all the values (MCC, MNC, LAC and SAC). The text in the 'Name' column will be displayed for the corresponding values.
Empty lines are skipped.
All numbers in the file are interpreted as hexadecimal numbers. Service area names can be up to 53 characters long.
Signaling point names file
The SigPointNames.csv file contains the signaling point names for the MTP/M3UA NI,DPC/OPC values.
If the NI+DPC or NI+OPC values in a MTP/M3UA message is found in the CSV file, then the signaling point name in the first matching item will be displayed.
All numbers in the file are interpreted as decimal numbers. Signaling point names can be up to 55 characters long.
IP address names file
The IPAddrNames2.csv file contains the IP address names for the IP addresses in various protocols.
Each row in the file has 4 columns separated by a comma.
The first column contains the IP address or an address range. The second column contains the VLAN-Id and port number values in the following format: VLANId*1000000 + Port_number. If the Port_number is 0, then only the VLAN Id is matched.
The IP address can be an IPv4 or an IPv6 address. IPv6 addresses cannot use the mixed IPv6-IPv4 notation. IPv6 addresses may contain dots instead of colons (as a special 'SGA' format).
A single IP address can be followed by the prefix size.
An IP address range contains 2 addresses connected by a '-' char.
The last column contains the display name, which can be up to 55 characters long.
Comment lines start with a semicolon.
BSSMAP CIC to GCP Termination ID file
The CIC2TermID.lst file contains the necessary information to calculate the GCP Termination ID related to the { OPC, DPC, BSSMAP CIC } value triplet.
If the related GCP Termination ID can be determined, then it is displayed under the CIC value.
All numbers in the file are interpreted as decimal numbers.
LTE cell names file
The LTEcellnames.csv file contains the LTE cell names for the MCC/MNC/TAC/ECI values
Empty lines are skipped.
All numbers in the file are interpreted as hexadecimal numbers. Cell names can be up to 53 characters long.
5G cell names file
The 5GCellnames.csv file contains the 5G cell names for the MCC/MNC/NRCI values
Empty lines are skipped.
All numbers in the file are interpreted as hexadecimal numbers. Cell names can be up to 53 characters long.
Functional details
SCCP protocol selection algorithm
If a subsystem number is present in the Called party address parameter then its value will determine the protocol type.
If the protocol could not be determined from the Called party address SSN then the Calling party address SSN is inspected.
If the protocol could be determined neither from the Calling party address SSN then the SCCP message type determines the carried protocol.
If the protocol could be determined neither from message type then the decision is made based on the point code table attached to each message.
The Called/Calling party address SSN values for each carried protocol can be configured by the user in the INI file.
IP packet reassembly
Fragmented IPv4 packets, or IPv6 packets containing the fragment header are reassembled in accordance to RFC 791.
If the reassembly is successful, then the reassembled data is displayed in the first message detail window. If reassembly is unsuccessful (or the IP reassembly option is turned off), then the original data is displayed, and decoded.
Also the state of reassembly is displayed after the IP header. The following reassembly states are defined:
TCP stream reassembly
SIP, HTTP, HTTP2, or Diameter message boundaries may not coincide with user data segment boundaries when SIP, HTTP, HTTP2, or Diameter is transported by TCP, so SIP, HTTP, HTTP2, or Diameter messages can not always be decoded by decoding the individual IP/TCP data segments.
This problem is solved by reassembling the consecutive TCP data segments into a stream which is in turn decoded as a series of SIP, HTTP, HTTP2, or Diameter messages.
The corresponding option (Options/Reassemble TCP stream data) must be switched on to use this feature.
NOTE1: Out of order segments are handled, reassembly is continued after forward "jumps" (holes) if a valid SIP, HTTP, HTTP2, or Diameter message header is detected at the new segments start.
NOTE2: TCP reassembly inside reassembled IP is handled.
NOTE3: SIP, HTTP, HTTP2, or Diameter messages are displayed in that segment, where the end of the message is located.
NOTE4: Items used for reassembly are displayed.
SCTP data reassembly
The user data carried by SCTP messages may be fragmented.
If the SCTP data reassembly is switched on (Options/Reassemble SCTP user data) then the corresponding SCTP fragments are reassembled during message file loading and the pieces of the reassembled data is kept in memory.
The reassembled data is decoded instead of the contents of the original DATA chunk in those chunks that contain the first fragment of the data.
NOTE1: Out of order fragments are handled too.
NOTE2: Items used for reassembly are displayed.
SCCP/XUDT data reassembly
The user data carried by SCCP/XUDT, LUDT and DT1, DT2 messages may be segmented.
If the SCCP/XUDT data reassembly is switched on (Options/Reassemble SCCP/XUDT user data) then the corresponding XUDT or DT1, DT2 segments are reassembled during message file loading and the pieces of the reassembled data is kept in memory.
The reassembled data is decoded instead of the contents of the original DAT/LongDat param in those XUDT/LUDT/DT1/DT2 messages that contain the first segment of the data.
For more details on the reassembly process see ITU-T Q.714, Chapter 4.1.1.
Hiding of sensitive user data
The program hides sensitive user data in both the binary and the detailed text views:
Command line parameters
If a filename is supplied (with or without quotation marks) then the program will load the file on start-up.
If the switch /Sv, /Sd, /SD or /Sg precedes the filename then the program will load the file, will save it as a text file, and will terminate.
The switch /Sv means detail level 'message values', the /Sd means 'message details', the /SD means 'message values and details', and the /Sg means 'first message values then details' (grouped format).
The switches /sv, /sd, /sD and /sg mean the same as above, except that no title will appear in the output text file.
A plus sign at the end of the switches above (e.g. /sv+) means that the text will be appended to the output text file.
The switch /Format=[tTcCRH] defines the format of the output text file. 't' means plain text with spaces, 'T' means plain text with tabs, 'c' means CSV (comma as delimiter), 'C' means CSV (semicolon as delimiter), 'R' means RTF and 'H' indicates HTML format.
If the format switch is omitted then the output format will be plain text with tabs for 'message values', and plain text with spaces for all other detail levels.
The switch /DelOnExit causes the input message file to be deleted on program exit.
The switch /View=X sets View X (X = 1..12) as the initial view on program start-up.
Details of message file reading
When a message file is loaded with the File / Load message file... menu option or by using the command line parameter,
the entire file is scanned but it is not loaded into the memory to conserve space.
If the Auto refresh file menu item is checked then the program checks the input file at a regular time interval (see the INI file setting [Advanced] / wRefreshInterval). If the file has become larger then the new messages are loaded. If the file has become shorter or if the first 1kB of the file has changed then it is re-loaded.
Every time the program needs the octets of a message for displaying, searching or saving the message values or details, it reads the message octets from the input file (thru a cache). This includes the case when the user changes the current selection by the up and down arrow keys, or when a part of the main window becomes visible. If the message can not be read from the file then the input file is closed, and if the Auto refresh file menu item is checked, then it is re-loaded.
