SGA-MSMS
The 'Mass SMS' service,
implemented by

Table of contents
Introduction
Purpose of the system
- A large number of Short Messages can be received (terminated) via SS7 signaling
from either external or local Short Message Service Centers (SMSC's), for
multiple local (live or virtual*) subscribers registered in various
Home Location Registers.
- These terminated Short Messages can then be submitted
via SS7, SMPP or via CIMD2 to various (either local or external) SMSC's, or they can
simply be counted and dropped on a per-user basis.
(*) Note: virtual subscribers: like the addressee of an SMS-game or an SMS-vote session.
Basic service of the SGA-MSMS System
Reception of Short Messages from external networks to predefined IMSI and MSISDN
numbers of the Operator, and forwarding these messages to the Operator's SMSC.
Operating principles
- The SGA-MSMS System can be connected physically to one or more MSC of the Operator,
and it logically realizes MSC/VLR functions relating to the predefined SIM numbers.
- Subscribers are announced to be located in the virtual VLR of the SGA-MSMS
via the standard Location Update MAP procedure.
- On the previous operations, the SMSC's are instructed by the HLR(s) to deliver
the Short Messages to the virtual MSC realized in the SGA-MSMS.
- The SGA-MSMS System can forward all received Short Messages to various
SMSCs via SMPP or CIMD2, UCP or SS7 protocol with transparent text and data in
the sender and destination fields of the messages.
Attributes of the SGA-MSMS system
- It handles SS7 protocols between the following elements:
MSC/VLR-HLR, MSC-SMSC.
- It currently allows the definition of 50,000 MSISDNs.
- It can handle a traffic of several million Short Messages/month.
- It is operated continuously, 24 hours a day, therefore
a reserve system should also be provided for reliability and
maintenance/upgrade services.
Miscellaneous functions
- Input group filtering, HLR selection, destination SMSC selection on
a per-user basis
- Administration of IMSI/MSISDN data (deletion, insertion of new subscribers)
- File level data archiving (e.g. on removable hard-disk)
- Access rights are handled for security
- Statistics
- can be sent to operator's Performance Management System
- optionally SCCP statistics for counting particular MSU's on a per-operator basis
- Alerting
- alarm indication in the case of malfunctions of the SGA-MSMS System
or the connected elements
- alarms sent to operator's Network Operating Center by SNMP traps
- Logging
- adjustable detail levels from 'Off' to 'Debug'
